Political science faculty write low-cost textbook
University of North Georgia (UNG) students aren't the only ones who pay attention to the price of educational textbooks. Â鶹APPfaculty took notice and responded.
Faculty in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs authored and edited a textbook about international relations and global issues. "The Basics of Global Politics" is a low-cost book released through Â鶹APPPress. It costs $34.99 and is available for purchase through Ingram, the Â鶹APPbookstore, independent bookstores, and other major retailers.
"The textbook we had been using was an electronic experience with a substantial cost," Dr. Dlynn Williams, head of the political science and international affairs department, said. "We wanted to write a textbook to provide all students with a low-cost option."
"The Basics of Global Politics" introduces beginner political science students to world politics. It reviews domestic and international politics and political ideologies and explores additional critical lenses, such as feminist and environmental theory. It also features an in-depth analysis of realism, liberalism, and constructivism; an explanation of changing approaches to international relations after major global conflicts; and discussions about global trends, obstacles, and developing identities in international relations.
Williams and Dr. Raluca Viman-Miller, assistant professor of political science, co-edited the book. Contributing authors from UNG's Department of Political Science and International Affairs include Dr. Craig Greathouse, professor and associate department head; Dr. Cristian Harris, professor; Dr. Scott Meachum, assistant professor; Dr. Jonathan Miner, professor; Dr. Nathan Price, associate professor; Dr. Sam Rohrer, associate professor; Dr. Seyed Hamidreza Serri, associate professor; Dr. Laurel Wei, assistant professor; and Dr. Dwight Wilson, associate professor. Two other contributors are Dr. Jake Greear and Dr. Jennifer Schiff.
